New Recipe: Cranberry Cider
Now, I know this isn't part of my travel series but I will be posting recipes of things that I make on trips or even ideas for dishes that I get while traveling. So the first recipe that I would like to share is my cranberry cider that I make for my family every Thanksgiving. I found this recipe a while ago and made some changes and additions to it to make it my own. Watch below on how to make the cider and read on for the full recipe and directions.
This recipe is super easy for anyone to make and it is perfect for the Thanksgiving holiday (with dinner) or on any chilly day during the winter months. I made this cider on our most recent camping trip to Caesar's Creek in October. We had some pretty cold nights and mornings and that cider was the perfect drink to warm us up from the inside out.
What you will need:
Crockpot
One 64 fluid-ounce jug of 100% cranberry juice
One 64 fluid-ounce jug of 100% apple juice
One big orange
Half a bag of fresh cranberries
A splash of orange juice
2 to 3 cinnamon sticks (depending on your taste)
How to make the cider:
In your crockpot put in the cranberry juice, apple juice, orange juice, cranberries, and cinnamon sticks.
Cut the orange into slices and add those to the cider (squeeze additional juice from the fresh orange into the crockpot).
Cook on high for 2 to 3 hours, then turn the crockpot on low or warm for the rest of the time as people keep drinking on it.
Something that is optional for this cider and any cider is that you can spike it with some cranberry wine or whatever you like. Plus, if there is something you don't like or something that you would like to add, make it your own. Cider is such a versatile drink where anything goes whether it is spices, fruit, juice, or alcohol you can do so much.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! If you make this for your family let me know what you think in the comments, tell me what your family thought, and share any changes/additions you made.
