Triberg WaterFalls In Germany
Updated: Mar 16, 2023
Our day in the Black Forest started out with "thinking" we were going to follow a route and stop in a few towns that looked interesting. So we found a town called Baden-Baden pretty soon after driving but the roads were narrow, we couldn't find parking and we were both getting a bit moody because driving in Germany is not a cakewalk. We decided to leave Baden-Baden and get back on the main route so we could figure out where to go.
We decided to take a break and stop alongside the road to figure out exactly where we needed to go and took a chance to look at a GPS. So we saw that if we went to the Triberg Waterfalls we could also stop at some cuckoo clock stores along the way. That seemed to be our best option so we could see as much as possible.
The Triberg Waterfalls located in the Black Forest are said to be one of the highest waterfalls in Germany. It is a landmark that many tourists visit throughout the year. While Triberg Schwarzwald is a town in Baden-Wurttemburg, Germany, the waterfall is located in the Schwarzwald-Baar district in the Black Forest.

We drove around town a bit and tried to decide where we wanted to park and found a small parking lot that we tried to get in. There was no way that we would be able to get out if it filled up anymore throughout the day so we went on looking. We found a spot on the street at a parking meter, which was very close to the falls.
When arriving just outside the falls, we started up a paved path passing by a small beautiful church. When we came to the beginning of the falls, there was a kiosk set up for us to pay to see the waterfalls and walk along the path (you will learn that everything costs something in Europe. We paid, got our tickets, and picked up a guide for some extra information. **I can't remember the exact price but I think it equaled about $6 USD per ticket, so it was not very expensive.
When we walked through, we were transported to a Brothers Grimm fairytale. The tall trees of the forest, the sound of rushing water, the foggy atmosphere, and the moss covered rocks felt like a storybook setting. After exploring the forest a little bit and of course taking some photos (as you'll see in the video above), we walked over on the path to get a look at the waterfalls.
We spent a little over an hour at the waterfalls, taking photos, walking around, and enjoying the fall colors and sights. We may have stayed longer but that's all the time we had on the parking meter and it was going to get dark soon so we didn't want to have to drive back to our hotel in the dark.
The waterfalls were the biggest I have seen in my lifetime and were so beautiful surrounded by colorful trees. There was a big platform at the bottom of the falls for you to stand and get a closer look but unfortunately, Garrett and I weren't able to make it there. I will say though, that anywhere you are on the paved path or the bridge above the falls the view is breathtaking.
Is It Worth It?
I saw this question a lot as I was doing some research after we had gotten back. From reviews that I read, they said it was anti-climatic and that it didn't live up to what they "thought" it should be. The reviews also said that they were upset that they had to pay to go see the falls. From my perspective, I believe it is totally worth it! The waterfalls were beautiful and I enjoyed just being there and in the moment. I do understand that paying for a natural beauty might be irritating to some but there are nice paved paths, lights along the path for when it gets dark, benches along the way, and a sturdy platform for you to see the falls closer. If there were no paths, benches, or lights then you would have to walk through a dark forest trail to see the waterfalls, and those things need upkeep for tourists to enjoy the area.
So if you are abroad in the Black Forest in Germany, the Triberg Falls is something you should stop by and see. I highly recommend it!
