Visiting The Porsche Museum | Stuttgart, Germany
Updated: Jun 10
The Porsche Museum located in Stuttgart, Germany is known for its sleek design of showcasing many different Porsches. From race cars to different generations to different models, you will see just about any Porsche you might be looking for. The facility is architecturally pleasing and is a fantastic experience for those interested in the Porsche brand.
The museum houses close to 100 vehicles, including some of the most iconic and historically significant Porsche models. This includes early prototypes, classic sports cars, racing cars, and modern vehicles. Some of the favorite cars we got to see includes:
Porsche 917/20 'Pink Pig' racecar
Sally Carrera from the movie Cars
MP4 Mclaren Tag Porsche F1
Porsche 917K
The Typ 64
*I will add here that they may have added/taken some away. We visited this museum in 2021 and some things may have changed.
The displays are designed to highlight the technological innovations and design evolution of Porsche. The museum features various interactive exhibits that allow visitors to engage with the history and technology of Porsche in a hands-on manner. This includes multimedia displays, touchscreens, and even some simulators.
The exhibits are organized thematically, covering different eras and aspects of Porsche's history. This includes sections dedicated to motorsports, design, engineering, and the brand's cultural impact. The exhibition area covers about 60,000 square feet but the museum itself covers about 226,000 square feet.
The museum includes a shop where you can purchase Porsche memorabilia, books, and model cars. There's also a restaurant and café where you can relax and enjoy a meal or a drink. You might be delightful surprised with the unique dining experience. Restaurants available to you are Boxenstopp Bistro, Christophorus Restaurant, and a Coffee Bar. We went to the Boxenstopp Bistro which is cafeteria style and you can get a very high-quality meal. Garrett and I both got the spaetzle which is probably one of the best meals we had in Germany. Unfortunately, I don't see the spaetzle on their menu anymore.
I highly recommend starting early because it may take you a good part of your day to get through depending on how much you want to look at and the exhibits you want to read. You want to give yourself enough time to enjoy and see everything including shopping and eating time. The museum opens at 9am and closes at 6pm.
I'm not much of a 'car person'. I think certain cars are cool to look at and I love looking at older cars but the history and technicality of some cars go over my head. However, it's something that is a once in a lifetime kind of thing. You may never see this museum of these cars again. I would recommend it to the avid car person for the cars and history but I would recommend it to the not-so-avid person as well. You will find yourself interested in something. I promise!
